For a number of years Franciscan Aid has worked alongside the Kubatana Community in Zimbabwe.

Kubatana supports local communities devastated by the effects of HIV/AIDS. They work in schools and villages. Franciscan Aid has funded education equipment, medical equipment, water bore holes, agricultural tools and seeds etc.

In one application this description was given of the devastation caused by Storm Anna:

This year didn’t start very well to people in Penhalonga, Muchena, Shamu and the whole area of Mutasa District. According to Mutasa Rural District council, more than 500 households were left homeless after the two days of heavy windy rains caused by tropical storm Anna.

This is the time our people are preparing for their children to go to school. Some of these people are the beneficiaries of our services. Others had already purchased exercise books and school materials in preparation for their children to go to school. Unfortunately, the heavy rains destroyed all the school materials, clothing, food staffs and more. Houses were also destroyed due to the harsh environment caused by the unexpected storms. Kubatana Clinic toilet block was also affected by the heavy rains.’

Villages mentioned below are situated along Mozambique boarder, some few kilometres from Kubatana Centre and others are within Muchena community.

We recorded few names and captured some pictures so that we show them to you for further assistance.
